Northumberland County Lawyer | Brighton Lawyer

Alan McMackin became a lawyer in 1978. He spent the first decade of his career working in house for the Federal Business Development bank and being a partner at Sims Brady McMackin. In the late 1980’s Alan opened his own litigation practice located in Whitby. During Alan’s career he was successful in dozens and dozens of trials, appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada and positively impacted the lives of countless clients. In 2014, Alan’s oldest son Ryan joined the law practice full time upon completion of law school.

As soon as Ryan joined the practice, he was given the opportunity to handle files from start to finish including trials. Under Alan’s mentoring and guidance this quickly allowed Ryan to gain experience handling all parts of litigation matters. Alan retired from the practice of law in 2019 leaving Ryan to run the business. Alan was appointed as a Deputy Judge in 2004 and continues to sit as a Deputy Judge today. Additionally, during Alan’s spare time he continues to provide mentoring and guidance to Ryan.

Ryan is a skilled litigator with experience handling a wide variety of litigation matters. He will walk you through each step of a dispute and explain to you the risks and consequences that can follow each action. His goal is to provide you quality results that are aligned with your personal goals.

Ryan understands that often when clients call a law practice, they don’t always deal directly with the lawyer but a receptionist or law clerk. As a result of that all too often in other practices the client feels a disconnect between what their lawyer is doing and their own goals. When you call our office, you will speak directly with Ryan. When you e-mail the office, you will deal directly with Ryan.

Alan and Ryan spend many of their weekends in Brighton at their lake house. They are converting part of the property into an office in order to be able to better serve residents of Northumberland County.
