Our story started in the late 1980’s when Alan McMackin opened a litigation practice in Whitby. As the practice grew Alan added properties in Bowmanville, Oshawa and Northumberland County (Brighton). Alan spent over 30 years handling civil litigation, business law and employment law matters. During his career he appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada, argued in nearly 100 trials and positively impacted the lives of 100’s of clients.
In 2014 Alan’s oldest son Ryan joined the law practice. Alan spent the final half a dozen years of his career as a lawyer actively training and mentoring Ryan. In 2019 Alan retired from the practice of law and left the family business to Ryan. Even after retiring from being a lawyer Alan is a Deputy Judge and spends much of his time providing guidance and mentoring Ryan.
Alan was one of the most experienced litigation lawyers in the province. While most junior lawyers are left to do document work Alan had Ryan doing Trials in his first year of practice.
In each case it is often the little things that can make the difference. What may seem like a minor issue can often have a major impact on your case. Ryan is adept at spotting the issues and coming up with solutions that meet each client’s goals and needs.
The two key components to having a positive experience in Ryan’s opinion are results and maintaining high levels of client communication. Each client has access to Ryan’s direct number regardless of the size of your case. You will not be left wondering about what is happening in your case or stuck speaking with staff members who do not know the details of your case.
In order to have a positive experience Ryan believes that there needs to be complete transparency and honesty. Ryan is not a lawyer who will try to sell you your case as a 100% winner. He will advise you of the positives, negatives, potential risks and formulate a customized strategy with you to meet your needs. Ryan would much rather lose out on a client then mislead about the prospect of their case. Your case matters to us.
