Alan McMackin opened his Litigation practice in the Durham Region in the late 1980’s. Alan had a successful career in which he appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada, won dozens of Trials, and positively impacted the lives of countless businesses and individuals.
Alan’s son Ryan followed in his footsteps and joined the practice full time in 2014. Alan has recently retired from the practice of law. He continues to serve as a Deputy Judge and provide guidance and mentoring to Ryan who now runs the family business.
Ryan is a talented litigator who is focused on delivering quality results while maintaining high levels of client communication. From the first day you meet Ryan he is open and honest with you. He will tell you the positives, negatives and hurdles he anticipates that you will face with your case. Proper expectations will be set at the beginning of the matter. One of the major factors that will ultimately have an impact on your result will be your risk tolerance.
Every client is different. Some clients have a large propensity for risk and enjoy litigation. These clients will frequently take cases all the way to trial unless they are paid in full. On the other end of the spectrum there are clients who simply are not cut out for a long drawn out litigation process. These clients may desire that a settlement be reached early on in a proceeding at a reduced rate. Ryan understands that each client will have different goals in mind and that even during the proceeding their tolerance may increase or decrease. With that in mind he strives to create a plan that best suits each client’s specific needs.

Ryan spent his youth in Pickering. He was a member of the Pickering Pirates baseball team and graduated from a local Pickering high school.
